Family
Mediation Services at the Ottawa
Centre for Family Mediation.
Family mediation is a confidential and cooperative
process involving persons experiencing conflicts or disputes, and
a mediator, who is an objective, professional third party. The mediator
assists persons in conflict to work through their issues and reach
outcomes that are beneficial for all concerned.
The family mediation process will often greatly
reduce the time, expense and stress typically associated with family
conflict.
| Fees for family mediation and consultation services are
set an hourly rate. The hourly rate for each client is determined
between clients and their mediator or consultant in accordance
with a fee structure that takes into account annual income and
number of dependents. |
| For separating or divorcing couples... |
Family mediation, for separation, divorce or common-law
matters, can be used as an alternative to, or in conjunction with,
formal legal
proceedings.
Family mediation is a formal process whereby a
separating couple sits down with an accredited family
mediator to work out issues regarding their separation or divorce.
Where children are involved, family mediation
will assist the parents to create a parenting plan that will benefit
everyone.
| For family relationships... |
The process of family mediation can also be used
to help individuals within a family resolve conflicts between them,
- couples
- siblings
- step-families
|
- elder care
- parents and children
- relatives
- adoptions
|
Mediation sessions are tailored to the issues
unique to each family, thus ensuring that all voices are heard, and
all needs are addressed.
